Dwelling in the Word

An Amen Retreat

July 18-20, 2025 | Augustine Institute Campus

Join us at the Augustine Institute campus this summer for Dwelling in the Word: An Amen Retreat. Together, we will reflect on the practice of reading Sacred Scripture in prayer, otherwise known as lectio divina. This retreat, led by our Graduate School of Theology professors, will cover the four steps of lectio divina: read, meditate, pray, and contemplate.

$500 single occupancy | $750 double occupancy

Only 70 spots left!

Join us on campus in St. Louis for our first overnight retreat!

Tolle Lege (take and read) are the mysterious words that Saint Augustine heard in his moment of anguish in the garden, which led him to pick up his Bible and read the words of St. Paul, “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 13:14). This becomes the moment of conversion for our patron and ultimately becomes a pivotal moment in the life of the Church. The source of this moment is the Sacred Word.

Through engaging reflections, liturgical prayer throughout the day, and private time for meditation on our beautiful campus, you are invited to experience the power of the Word of God that Saint Augustine experienced at his conversion.

The Church "forcefully and specially exhorts all the Christian faithful . . . to learn 'the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ' (Phil 3:8) by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures... Let them remember, however, that prayer should accompany the reading of Sacred Scripture, so that a dialogue takes place between God and man. For 'we speak to him when we pray; we listen to him when we read the divine oracles."'
